Happy Chef Western Food ....... Chicken Kiev or Chicken Cordon Bleu

How often do we see Chicken Cordon Bleu served in a western food stall inside our local 'kopitiam'? Most of the western food stalls would serve that typical chicken chop and cutlet. I thought one that is serving this dish at economic price deserves a mention. Well I just happened to bump into one called Happy Chef in a coffee shop at Crawford Lane, right beside Tai Hwa Pork Noodles.

The Chicken Cordon Bleu served at Happy chef is called Chicken Kiev (see photo above). I thought it should be rightly called Chicken Cordon Bleu as cheese and ham were rolled togther with chicken breast, coated with bread crumbs and then deep fried. Original Chicken Kiev didn't have ham rolled in.

Chicken Kiev (or Chicken Cordon Bleu)
Happy Chef made it right up my alley. I thought that they chose the right type of ham and cheese, that wasn't too salty, to roll in with the chicken breast. The mix of cheese, ham and chicken were of the right savoriness and weren't too rich to cause that cloying feeling. To top it up, all these richness cost only S$6.50. However, the fries that came with the 'Chicken Kiev' was too hard (taking Mcdonald's fries as a reference) and dry. So, nevermind that it should be rightly called 'Chicken Kiev' or 'Chicken Cordon Bleu' as long as they are happy and they made me happy.

Mushroom and Fries
Apart from the Chicken Kiev, we had the fried mushroom and fries which is also Happy Chef signature. Although the mushroom were deep fried, it didn't look greasy.

Dissecting the deep fried mushroom revealed the tender juicy wild mushroom inside the crispy bread crumbs. It was a good appetizer.

Actually, we came to this coffee shop for Tai Hwa's Minced Pork Noodles and not Happy Chef's Western Food. While waiting for Tai Hwa's noodles, we saw Happy Chef's media highlights on the sign that they proudly placed near our table. Since we were waiting, we ordered some of Happy Chef's signature to share. Happy Chef did make me happy.
