泰昌餅家 Tai Cheong Bakery for traditional Hong Kong bakes and of course the '肥彭蛋撻' or 'Fat Patten Egg Tart' - Central, Hong Kong

As one walks pass No. 35 Lyndhurst Terrace, those who don't know wouldn't even raise an eye brow to look at this unassuming bakery. However, this traditional Hong Kong bakery, 泰昌 Tai Cheong prides itself for baking the '肥彭蛋' or 'Fat Patten Egg Tart', cheekily named after Chris Patten, the last British Governor of Hong Kong. I was said that the governor love Tai Cheong's Egg Tart and also recommended them to people. It's a shame that I've been to Hong Kong so many times that this is the first time I get to eat this egg tart! I wouldn't say it's the best egg tart, but it's quite good. It's just so much more popular than it actually taste.

This is the 肥彭蛋撻, 'Fat Patten Egg Tart' that I held in my hand. It really looked simple like all the others.

A close up of the 肥彭蛋撻, 'Fat Patten Egg Tart'. The egg custard was silky smooth and the crust was quite thick and tasted a bit like Danish butter cookie as it seem to be slightly sweeter than the crust of those I've eaten elsewhere.

Chinese Donut 沙翁 was what Jane bought for us. As she flew into Hong Kong earlier, she made a trip to Tai Cheong, planning to welcome us to Hong Kong with some egg tarts. The egg tarts were sold out but she managed to grab this traditional Hong Kong bake that is also popular in Tai Cheong.

A close up of the Chinese Donut 沙翁. This odd shaped 'donut' tasted quite good. There's more air in this Chinese version than the typical donut that we know.

I love egg tarts & Tai Cheong's 肥彭蛋撻 looks absolutely delicious. 沙翁 too. You're making me very hungry.

They're quite good! Our whole entourage were having the egg tart right outside the shop after we bought them.

Finally tried Tai Cheong's egg tart! They are indeed delicious, so is the 沙翁. But I actually prefer Honolulu Coffee Shop's HK-style flaky egg tart. It's da bomb divine!

Heard about Honolulu's egg tarts but never tried them before. How's it compared to Tong Heng's near Maxwell Market?

No where near!! Honolulu's egg tart is out-of-the-world sublime, it's the flaky buttery crust kind. Tong Heng's can't even be compared to Tai Cheong's. They are 2 egg tarts from different worlds too haha.
