茶寮都路里 Tsujiri for green tea dessert .......... Gion - Kyoto, Japan

Raise up your hand if you like dessert. Raise up your hand again if you like green tea too. If you've already raised both hands, 茶寮都路里 Tsujiri in Gion, Kyoto is the place for you.

Tsujiri specialise in green tea. They have incorporated green tea into desserts and have made these desserts so popular that a consistent queue is forming right at the dessert shop's entrance. Even for a person who doesn't fancy red bean and green tea food (other than green tea itself), the desserts that Tsujiri create impressed me.

This is the Special Tsujiri Parfait (Cost : 1200 yen). The contents includes, green tea ice cream, pieces of green tea cake, cubes of green tea jello, mochi balls, fresh cream, orange and red bean. This must be the green tea lovers' delight. I liked the tangy texture of the green tea jello cubes and the mochi balls. The smooth green tea ice cream at the top of the parfait is marvellous too. This dessert is so well concocted that the taste of the different ingredients blend in nicely. That's why it's the house special!

The outlet that I patronised is the main outlet in Gion. It is located along the Shijo dori main street and it occupies the 2nd and 3rd floor. The first floor is their green tea shop. If you can help it, avoid visiting the dessert place during the weekend. There's a constant queue that stretches from their entrance at the 2nd floor, down the stairs and onto the pavement along the street. The cold winter evening can make the waiting quite enduring.
