Ikyu ... Fine Japanese Cuisine in the hip Yong Siak Street

A search for simple Friday dinner ended us in Ikyu at Yong Siak Street. We managed a walk in and even get seats at the sushi bar. Ikyu is just opened for 3 weeks and hence the hype was not there yet but not for long. The modern Japanese restaurant is helmed by owner and Executive Chef Takuma Seki who used to be Chef de Cuisine in Hide Yamamoto. Dinner was made more enjoyable at the sushi bar where we immersed in the cheery chatter with Chef Seki and Chef Andy.Dinner here was fantastic but pricey and certainly not as simple as we originally intended.

We love the Kagoshima Wagyu Sirloin Beef that had it's flavors enhanced with the fried sliced garlic and ponzu sauce. Sushi over the bar was magnificent. I cannot forget the smooth snapper sushi and the melt-in-your-mouth flounder sushi. The Grilled Edamame flavoured in truffles was a level above those in other Japanese restaurants that was just lightly salted.
